Public Notice Revise 100-Year Annual Floodway
The Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) for a community depicts the floodplain, the area which has been determined to be subject to a 1% (100-year) or greater chance of flooding in any given year. The floodway is the portion of the floodplain that includes the channel of a river or other watercourse and the adjacent land area that must be reserved in order to discharge the base flood without cumulatively increasing the water-surface elevation by more than a designated height. The FIRM is used to determine flood insurance rates and to help the community with floodplain management.
Cardno is applying for a Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (DHS-FEMA) on behalf of The City of Fairview to revise FIRM 4101800216J along Fairview Creek. Cardno is proposing to revise the FIRM to reflect improvements made to the culverts in NE Halsey Street and NE Fairview Ave that were not previously accounted for in the Flood Insurance Study (FIS).
The City of Fairview Public Works Department, in accordance with National Flood Insurance Program regulation 65.7(b)(1), hereby gives notice of the City’s intent to revise the 1% annual chance (100-year) floodway, generally located between SE Matney Street and NE Chinook Way. Specifically, the floodway shall be revised from a point 70 feet east of the intersection of Harrison Street and NE Fairview Ave to a point 750 feet southwest of the intersection of NE Halsey Street and NE Fairview Ave/NE 223rd Ave.
